Charles Schulz Museum - September

When Pop Pop & Nana were out visiting us from Florida, we all took a ride up north of San Francisco to see the Charles Schulz Museum.

This was an amazing wall.  Totally made up of comic strips!

The museum is full of these classic comic strips.

Yes, they even had cartoons in the bathroom!

There was a workshop there where the kids could create their own cartoons.  The black tube in front of Koa is a spinning wheel where they can place the cartoons they have drawn, and see them come to life like a little movie!

Kawika is holding a piece of the 'Running Fence'.  Schulz was vital in coaxing 56 ranchers and private landowners to accept Christo's and Jeanne-Claude's famous "Running Fence," a billowing, white ribbon that rose from the Pacific and wound across the hills of Sonoma and Marin counties for two weeks in 1976.

Running Fence was 18 feet high and 24.5 miles long. The art project consisted of 42 months of collaborative efforts, 18 public hearings,
three sessions at the Superior Courts of California,
the drafting of a 450-page Environmental Impact Report and
the temporary use of the hills, the sky and the ocean
at California's Bodega Bay.

Across the way is an ice rink and cafe.  Charles Schulz played hockey in his day, and enjoyed daily lunch at the Warm Puppy cafe.  There is also a fun gift shop.

Afterwards, my mom reminded me of a story. Over 20 years ago, she and my dad were speaking at a family camp.  Some of the young people at the camp decided to go ice skating and brought my parents along with them.
At some point my mom had stepped away, and when she returned, my dad was not where she had left him.  Right away, though, she spotted him - out on the ice!  With his accomplices, of course!
(We will have to find those pictures.)
It just happened to take place at this very ice rink!

While in wine country, we also took Pop Pop and Nana to
Francis Ford Coppola's Winery.  It was impressive with a beautiful pool, restaurants, and lots of film memorabilia.
